The true beginnings of our history and culture begin some 6, years before the new era. The earliest traces of human activity in the territory of present-day Republic of North Macedonia date from the Stone Age - the Palaeolithic. With the creation of the first settlements along the river Bregalnica and Ovce Pole, then along the river Vardar and Pelagonija.
The ancient Macedonians were considered non-Greek but are claimed as co-nationals by the modern Greeks.
